Introduction

What is Assistive Technology? It is any sort of aid, including computers, switches, calculators, spelling devices, communication devices and voice synthesizers, which is used to help an individual perform some task of daily living.

Why do we need Assistive Technology?

The IDEA law requires that assistive technology devices and services be considered for all children identified as having an exceptional education need.

Learners

This Webquest was developed to inform teachers of students who require assistive technology.

Curriculum Standards

National Standards

Child Find Information - The intent of Child Find is that all children from birth through age 21 with delays or disabilities are identified, located and evaluated to receive the supports and services they need. Public schools and the Arizona Early Intervention Program are responsible for "finding" eligible children and providing services needed for them to reach their developmental milestones or meet their educational needs.

Process

The teacher will become familiar with the above assistive technologies. Each Adaptive Technology Link will discuss ways to use the adaptive devices for the educational benefit of the student.

Resources Needed

Each Assistive Technology Link will specify whether any resources are needed or not.

Evaluation

Each Assistive Technology link will specify its own evaluation criteria.
