My Major

My major is currently Park and Recreation Management. This major is designed for future forest rangers, managers for recreational services, and for local, state, or government park services. This major has a broad range of opportunities involving parks, leisure, and recreational services. This major will help train for planning, organizing, and facilitating leisure, recreation, or park services. PRM will also help train for outdoor leadership, community recreation management, park and resource protection, recreation programming, and recreation site/ planning. Parks and recreation management graduates can find jobs with municipal parks and recreation departments; private resorts, clubs, and spas; federal land-management agencies; county, state, and federal correctional institutions; non-profit organizations; religious youth and adult organizations; hospitals; military installations; sporting goods manufacturers and trade associations; and travel and tour companies.

I have chosen Outdoor Education as my emphasis area for my field of study. This emphasis will help train for leadership, guiding, and educator rolls in the outdoor environment. This emphasis includes field based training to become prepared for the role of leader and educator of the great outdoors.

I am also currently trying to double major with the Education Department as well. This major will help train me to become an educator for schools locally and all around the nation. Prior to graduation, I will become a certified teacher in the state of Arizona. Although my teaching degree will only certify me for teaching in Arizona I will be prepared to teach anywhere in the United States.

After receiving my Bachelors degree in both areas mentioned above, I would like to find a job in education for the outdoors. I would love to be able to interact with children everyday, teaching them about the outdoors, and the environment in which we live. I will also have the opportunity to teach within a school district here in Arizona.
