My name is Alexandria Clay and I have decided to turn my passion for dance into a reality and open Twinkle Toes Dance Academy.  I have been a dancer for the past eight years now with background in modern, lyrical, tap, ballet, jazz and hip-hop dance.  During my high school years I was a part of the competitive dance team and choreographed dance routines for state competitions.  I have always been highly active and dedicated to my athletics. Prior to becoming a dancer I was enrolled in gymnastics classes for three years. I was a competitive swimmer on the city team for six consecutive years and on my high school team for four years.  I have always dreamt of one day sharing my love of sports with others alike.

My personal favorite style of dance is ballet because it best known for its unique features and techniques, as well as its graceful, precise movements. Ballet makes use of the body and its unique composure, mixed motion with earthbound performers.  Ballet is all about technique and emphasis is put on building strength in the legs and upper body, and on developing flexibility. This type of dance provides you with a basic background you can build off of for other styles of dance.

Being a dancer is not an easy task and requires a lot of work effort. You are always in the spotlight and being criticized. When I first stated dancing this was emotionally hard on me and affected my dancing performance.  In time I overcame this obstacle as I forced myself to take the criticism and turn it into positive energy. When someone would criticize my dance techniques I would see it as an opportunity and attempt to improve.  Another challenge in being a dancer is developing your own unique style. You have to disengage from what is going on around you and dance from the heart. You cannot let what others think of your style discourage you in any way. How you dance is what makes you unique and stand apart from other dancers.
