    Ancient Philosophy 242

The Purpose of this course was to educate students in the early principles and history of philosophy.  I learned a great deal about aristotle and plato who got the ball rolling for the concept of thinking philosophically.  We also learned about ancient Greek mythology and the Greek gods which I personally find very interesting.  the course progressed through the early ages of philosophy and discussed the new forms of thought and understanding that was unfolding as philosophy was practiced.  I learned through this course a totally different way of looking at the world and understanding why things happen.  I think I can use this knowledge to help relate to people in the future who may have different views.  I will be able to understand their points and be able to relate myself to them.

 Sociology 101

This course was designed to give students a look at the different cultures and behaviors of people all around the world.  My professor was from a foreign country which added to the variation of perspectives in the class.  We discussed many aspects of Human Behavior and compared them with each other to see how different certain people live.  I really enjoyed listening to the experiences of my professor and trying to understand how a foreigner views the American culture and lifestyle.  I think that the knowledge I gained in the class will help me relate to people but in a non philosophical aspect.  I understand now that there is so many ways that people live throughout the world and I should not be biased based on my American upbringing.  I am able to understand why certain cultures and people behave the way they do and I can use that to make acquaintances around the world which could come in handy for many reasons.

Human Development

I took this course my freshman year while I was attending the University of Hawaii in Honolulu.  I was so interested in this class because I was never given the opportunity to participate in this type of class in high school.  The course covered the lifespan of a human and all the different theories people have on reasons for behavior.  I found this to be very helpful in understanding why little kids act the way they do.  Most of my jobs have involved caring for younger kids so I found it to be helpful currently and in the future if I end up working with kids.

Health Professions 220

I originally intended on taking this course because it was required for my major and I thought it would be an easy class.  In this course we went over many different principles of basic health and disease.  I learned a lot about my own habits and how harmful they could be if I didn't change some of them.  We did a large project on your most addictive habit and how to change it.  The project shed light on a pretty serious issue in my life and I am really glad I did it.  The main thing I gained from this class is that there are several different areas that can determine the overall wellness of a person.  I can use this information in the future to help others and to also help myself lead a more healthy life.

Psychology 230

This class was not at all what I expected when I showed up on the first day.  The purpose of the course was to use statistics to calculate different areas that a psychologist would use.  For example we did a lot of determining scores of tests and then placing them in different categories depending on tons of different variables.  I am horrible at mathematics so I thought I was going to struggle.  This course actually applied the calculations to something that is useful to most humans so I think I was able to understand it better.  I could use the knowledge I gained from this course in the future to help better understand test scores and if I needed to make up a test and administer it effectively.
