Favorite Courses:

There have been few courses that i have truly enjoyed during college. In total i would guess about a tenth of the classes I have taken on this fine campus. Which is about 5 or 6 classes. These classes include Forestry 101, SC 111, Photography 383 (color photography), Photography 281 (black and white photography, and finally Visual Communications 251 also known as computer imaging one.

These classes allowed me to do things i truly enjoyed, and learn how to do the things a little better.

1) Forestry 101: Introduction to Forestry, with Prof. Larson. Although this was my fourth major that I changed to and eventually dropped this class taught me a great deal about life in the wild, and ironically was one of the easiest classes I had ever taken. I instantly had great respect for the teacher for his rugged yet fun teaching style, as well as his ability to tell one hell of a good story. such as the time he nearly whacked his leg off cutting wood with a chainsaw and argued with his wife about going to the hospital. Something I would most certainly do, since doctors seem  to do more damage to me than the chainsaw would have done, except for the dreaded smell of almonds which is never good.

2) SC 111, Noel. This class was an absolute blast. And NO I am not talking about a tasty beverage involving Absolute and berries, although oddly enough they came into discussion in this speech communications class. This teacher was how should i put this...Insane. Which made the class a riot. His daily discussion included Goat adult websites, family reunions where the main "bonding experience" had to do with drag racing their cars, and bikes, and participating in a drinking and driving experiment where they tested how many drinks an average person could have before you were condemned as physically intoxicated. If this professor was still on campus i would truly recommend taking his course but I believe he moved on to bigger and better things (excuse the bloody cheesy phrase.)

3) Photography 383 with Chris Everett: Now the first question that may have popped into your mind is what exactly is Photography 383, well it is color photo. Now this may sound dull to those of you out there who are photo illiterate, but with the right amount of teacher agitation (you agitating the teacher not vice or versa) and just a little bit of a desire to be adventures this class can be a blast. Although it does take a lot of work. In this class I have nearly gotten my truck stuck 10 miles down an inaccessible road, been crushed by ice falling of the Sky Dome. Just remember if you take this class Everett can be a pain to work with, but he is a good guy, and knows what he is talking about.

4) Photography 281: Black and White Photo with Sam Minkler. What can i say about this class except for WOW. See this class is another for the slightly ADD, and easily distracted. Just remember that if you take a class with Minkler he is a wonderful Professor if you ASK questions. If you like to be told exactly what to do, and when it is due take the class with another fellow. This class is great for people who like to take off and go on their own, and don't need a constant nudge in the butt. This is one of the reasons I don't love most of my college classes because a lot of the time they make me feel like I am in 5th grade again. I realize I haven't matured much, but I like to think i matured a little bit, even a year. I hate sitting in classes, like I currently am and listen to someone drone on and on about subjects instead of telling me the basics such as "this is when its due, this is what you need." That is a good class in my eyes. So if you are the faint of heart i suggest you stick with classes that would bore the crap out of me and i have a hard time attending...such as a certain computer class in the first floor of the business building...jeez i think I've only been to that class 7 freaking times this semester, and what do you know we've turned in eight assignments coincidence?

5) Finally one of my favorite classes of my college years has been VC 251 with Chris Kirby. First of all this is a visual communications class which was my first major. This class is excellent if you want to learn everything there is to know about Adobe Photoshop as well as Illustrator. These programs are fun to use, and with the correct amount of practice may even allow you great money making skills in the world of blackmail and espionage (no I have never blackmailed anyone...) Now i know the first thing you thought of when you read Kirby HE IS NOT A GIANT PINK COTTON CANDY BALL THAT EATS EVERYTHING IN HIS PATH. He is a Professor that will be at class about as much as the average student, so about half the time. And he truly enjoys his job teaching all of us PC genius how to use Macs. If you take this class just remember to roll with the punches because it is a lot of work, but with the right completely legal copies of these programs at home you can pull a few all nighters to finish your projects on time.
